I used to be a Salesman.
When I was in my last year of my university years, I joined Sunlife Financial as a Financial Advisor and then moved to Prudential Life Assurance. Quite Interesting Job's name, isn't it? But, I still prefer to call it ... SALESMAN.
It was a tough life, you know. And I think it's because of the Indonesian Culture. Here in Indonesia, most of the people still not insurance-minded. But maybe that doesn't really important. The important things is the culture of people who buy and sell the insurance.
I find it hard to be in an office that many 'regular salesman' are around me. Maybe I'm too cruel, but it really happens. I don't think any of you would like the situation if someone is offering you an insurance programs and keep calling you in order to get your signature in a brand new insurance contract. Sometimes it's annoying, Right?
Okay, maybe I'm a little bit offensive, but I do have a better method. And you know what, I only did what I have to do according to the trainer said. It's powerful enough to get about 20 millions rupiahs Premium Income for only 15 days of work. I just tell my prospective buyer the strengths and weaknesses about 2 or 3 products that I really like and match them. Then I just telling them that they have to think about my presentation and the products off course. Then I ask for their permission to contact them a week later to follow up whether they want to join the insurance or not. If they don't want to, I just telling them that if they don't mind, next time when there is another product that match them, I will contact them again.
For the honestly presentation, I earn about 21 millions for the company in my first months. The boss then really like my effort. But no one believe in my methods, they said that I just act low profile.
